1 Section 2: ACCESS ROADWAYS FOR NEWLY CONSTRUCTED BUILDINGS. <br /> 2 a. Every building hereafter constructed shall be accessible to Fire Depart- <br /> 3 ment apparatus by way of access roadways approved by the Fire Department with <br /> 4 all-weather driving surface of not less than twenty (20) feet of unobstructed width, <br /> 5 with adequate roadway turning radius capable of supporting the imposed loads of fire <br /> 6 apparatus and having a minimum of thirteen (13) feet, six (6) inches of vertical <br /> 7 clearance. <br /> 8 <br /> EXCEPTION: The requirements of this section may be modified when, <br /> 9 in the opinion of the Fire Chief or his designee, fire-fighting or rescue <br /> operations would not be impaired. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 b. The access roadway shall be extended to within 150 feet of all portions of <br /> 12 the exterior walls of the first story of any building. Where the access roadway cannot <br /> 13 be provided, an approved fire protection system or systems shall be provided as required <br /> 14 and approved by the Fire Chief or his designee. <br /> 15 c. Where fire protection systems approved by the Fire Chief or his designee <br /> 16 are provided, the above required clearances may be modified. <br /> 17 d. The Fire Chief or his designee shall have the authority to require an <br /> 18 increase in the minimum access widths where such width is not adequate for fire or <br /> 19 rescue operations. <br /> 20 Section 3: DUTY TO ESTABLISH. It shall be the duty of any and all <br /> 21 owners, occupiers or others with a possessory interest in any real property to designate <br /> 22 and maintain at all times fire lanes determined and specified by the Fire Chief or his <br /> 23 designee. Designation and maintenance shall include the installation and maintenance <br /> 24 of No Parking Signs, and/or other appropriate notice prohibiting obstructions within the <br /> 25 fire lane. Such signs and/or other appropriate notice shall be in a format and so placed <br /> 26 as approved by regulation of the Fire Chief or his designee. <br /> 27 Section 4: DUTY OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. Whenever it comes to the <br /> 28 attention of the Fire Chief or officer of the Fire or Police Department that a required <br /> 29 fire lane has either not been designated or is not being maintained, then such officer or <br /> 30 employee shall cause notice to be given to any owner, occupier or others with a <br /> 31 possessory interest in said property that failure to designate and maintain a fire lane is <br /> 32 <br /> -2- <br />
