August 6, 2018
Everett City Council
2930 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 9A
Everett,WA 98201
Re: Proposed Change to Drug Treatment Facilities in the Downtown Everett Core
Dear Councilmembers,
The H.O. Seiffert Company has been in continuous operation in Downtown Everett since 1901. Formerly
operating in the retail and wholesale lumber and building materials business, we transitioned to the
management of income properties in the 1970's and among other investments we operate three self-
storage facilities in the downtown core. As active participates in the Smith Avenue stakeholders' group,
Downtown Everett Association, and Everett Station District Alliance, we are excited about the Metro
Everett plan which provides a framework for the hopes and dreams of many for our great city.
I am deeply concerned about the concentration of social services in the downtown area and the realities
of the effects that homelessness and addiction have on the safety of our streets. It has real impacts to
local businesses like ours and equally important to the perceptions of those outside our community
considering investment in the revitalization of downtown Everett.
While I can understand the need for additional social services, the proposed location of a drug
treatment clinic at 2800 Wetmore seems ill-advised. Considering the potential impacts on a section of
the city's core paramount to the long term realization of the Metro Plan, an alternative should be
studied.
I believe such a location would prove challenging and adversely impact the perception of safety for
those visiting Everpark garage, Library Place &Aero Apartments, Imagine Children's Museum, Schack Art
Center, and Everett Public Library, among others.
Please consider maintaining the current restrictions on new drug treatment clinics and associated social
services.
Respectfully,
Pat Sievers—President
The H.O. Seiffert Company
Dba Everett Downtown Storage
CC: Cassie Franklin, Mayor
Nick Harper, Deputy Mayor
Dan Eernissee, Economic Development Director
