II
1 il
2911 Colby Ave., Everett,WA.98201
August 3, 2018
Everett City Council
2930 Wetmore Avenue,Suite 9-A
Everett,WA.98201
RE: Clinics&Social Services in Downtown Everett
Dear Councilmember,
The Historic Everett Theatre and its management and ownership wishes to express our deepest concerns
over the idea of rezoning the existing Central Business District and the proposed Metro Plan Urban Mixed
zone. The theatre attracts thousands of visitors to the downtown corridor on a yearly basis and the current
concentration of clinics and other social service agencies have our visitors nervous for their own safety.
Adding more Clinics and these types of services to the area will, in our opinion, create a much larger risk
to people coming into town to enjoy an evening or day of shopping, eating and entertainment. I personally
walk to work each day and I cannot go the 6 blocks that I need to travel without being approached by
people asking for money and coming across used needles and paraphernalia. I am also having to clean up
said items around our business and are left with other"gifts"that are unsanitary and disturbing.
By adding more clinics and services to downtown this situation can only make it worse. I feel that the City
Council should be more concerned with the life blood of the City, the businesses, owners, taxpayers and
residents that are fueling the upturn in this once forgotten area. If people come here and are afraid for
their safety or are continuously asked for money they will find other places to live and work where they
can feel secure. This area contains senior citizens daycare, senior homes,Children's museum,Funko,Angel
of the Winds Arena not to mention our theatre. These venues and attractions are vital to sustaining the
tourist growth of which the downtown businesses in the area desperately rely upon.
Please focus on the right people in this decision. The voters, taxpayers and visitors are what is going to
make this City continue to grow and thrive. I write this as another arrest of a homeless drug person is
being made in front of the theatre in front of our guests and people trying to purchase tickets.
Inc rely,
Cr
Curt S iner
Hist,-c Everett Theatre
