�,OW <br /> a <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 6615 <br /> A Resolution Renaming Northwest Neighborhood Park <br /> "Drew Nielsen Neighborhood Park" <br /> WHEREAS, on May 29, 2012, Mayor Stephanson received a proposal from the <br /> Northwest Neighborhood Association Steering Committee signed by 95 additional <br /> persons in the community to rename Northwest Neighborhood Park"Drew Nielsen <br /> Neighborhood Park"; <br /> WHEREAS, Drew Nielsen was instrumental in founding the Northwest Neighborhood <br /> Association and the Everett Council of Neighborhoods; <br /> WHEREAS, Drew Nielsen had a specific connection with Northwest Neighborhood <br /> Park after representing the neighborhood in discussions with Providence Medical Center <br /> which resulted in the park being created and deeded to the City of Everett and working <br /> with the neighborhood to build furnishings for and landscape the park; and <br /> WHEREAS, Drew Nielsen enhanced the quality of life in Everett by his outstanding <br /> service to the city in his capacities as a neighborhood activist, neighborhood leader, <br /> Planning Commissioner, Tree Committee member, Shoreline Public Access Committee <br /> Member, City Council member from 2004 to 2012, and stellar human being; and <br /> WHEREAS, examples of Drew Nielsen's service to the City include his participation in <br /> the update of the City's Shoreline Master Program,the City of Everett's Comprehensive <br /> Plan, Waterfront Public Access Plan, Downtown Everett Development Plan, Historic <br /> Overlay Zones, Downtown Historic Preservation Plan, Hewitt Avenue National Register <br /> Historic District, Everett Bicycle Plan, and the Evergreen Way Plan; and <br /> WHEREAS, in September 2012 City Council adopted Resolution No. 6537, A <br /> Resolution Establishing a Policy on Public Place Names and Name Changes, which <br /> authorizes City Council to designate the names of city buildings, streets,public places, <br /> facilities and natural features by resolution; and <br /> WHEREAS, the naming policy states that a name change may be attributed to a living or <br /> deceased person(one or more years)...if there is a specific connection to the property and <br /> if the person or entity has enhanced the quality of life within the city; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Parks Commissioners considered the proposal on April 9, <br /> 2013, and recommended approval of the name change as proposed; and <br />
