•
•
PARK POLICY GOVERNING TRIES ON PUBLIC LAND
. s
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria from which the
• involvement of the EPRD in management of trees and vegetation on
public property can be determined.
2.0 MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
2.1 SCOPE OF EXISTING MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
A. Yearly or biyearly arboricultural pruning techniques are applied to
approximately 2,000 trees on public property or public right of
way.
B. Application of pesticides by EPRD is performed for control of
insect infestation and disease while minimizing environmental
impact of pesticide prolieration. Systematic observation of trees
by the Tree Specialist/Sprayman is the key to the success of this
program.
C. Removal of existing trees on public property is performed by the
EPRD for the following reasons: .
I. Danger to the public safety.
2. Disease or insect infestation which cannot be controled or are
contagious.
3. Obstruction or damage of public utilities.
D. Stump removal is accomplished by the EPRD by the use of a one-
• man stump router. This machine is capable of routing stumps
below ground level which range in diameter from 6" to 18". The
EPRD has no capabilities to remove large stumps.
E. Planning and planting of trees for the future benefit of the
• citizens of Everett is an ongoing program of the EPRD. The
EPRD has established a tree nursery and is in the active process
of searching out and acquiring low maintenance pest free trees.
Adopted by Parks & Recreation Board
November 27, 1979
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
