These trees maybe planted if the problems <br /> are satisfactorily met and/or accepted by the owner. Some ore <br /> desirable trees in the right situation. • <br /> Acer Negundo, Acer Saccharinum (Boxelder, Silver Maple) <br /> Brittle. Break up badly in storms. <br /> Ailanthus Altissimo (Tree of Heaven) <br /> Roots are invasive, suckers freely, brittle. <br /> Albizia Julibrissin (Silk Tree) <br /> Vulnerable to fatal canker attacks in Everett <br /> Betula Alba (European White Bark Birch & vars). <br /> Regular aphid infestations require 1-3 summer sprays to control <br /> these mess-producing insects. (Many trees gelt aphids, but white <br /> birch is always more heavily attacked) <br /> Catalpa spp. (Indian Bean Tree) <br /> Short lived, brittle. Roots are worse on sidewalks than most trees. <br /> Cratoegus oxyacantha (Hawthorn-including Paul's scarlet) <br /> Heavy aphid infestation <br /> Gleditsia triacanthos (Honey Locust) <br /> Thorny (choose thornless varieties). Ordinary Honey Locusts can <br /> damage sidewalks and curbs. <br /> Juglans Nigro, J. Regio (Black Walnut, English Walnut) <br /> Messy fruit, large leaves of English Walnut are slippery on walks. <br /> J. Nigra roots are destructive. <br /> Malus (Fruiting and Flowering Apples/Crabapples) <br /> Fruiting apples are subject to vandalism when fruiting. Fruits <br /> messy. Flowering Crabapples requrie broad space low to the ground, <br /> producing problems planted near pedestrian/vehicular traffic. <br /> Prunis (Fruiting Plums & Cherries) <br /> Fruits on sidewalks. Vandalism <br /> Pyrus (Fruiting Pears) <br /> Robinia Pseudoacacia (Black Locust) <br /> Thorny trees. Brittle and short lived tree <br /> Sophora Japonica (Pagoda Tree) <br /> In Everett, this tree is highly vulnerable to canker attacks. Often <br /> fatal to tree <br /> Sorbus Aucuparia (Mountain Ash) <br /> Large crop of messy fruit on sidewalks. <br /> Tilia Americana (Basswood) <br /> Roots destructive. Tree apt to be brittle <br /> Ulmus Americana. U.Parviflora, U. Pumilia (American Elm, Chinese Elm) <br /> Unless sprayed yearly, these trees are apt to be defoliated in <br /> Everett by Elm leaf betties. Also Dutch Elm disease is to be in <br /> Everett by 1980. which kills elms. Roots destructive. <br />
