1 ORDINANCE NO. &'h/a-f <br /> 2 <br /> AN ORDINANCE providing for the licensing and regulation of merchant <br /> 3 patrolman (security guard), agencies thereof, private detectives and <br /> agencies thereof. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> 7 Section 1: DEFINITIONS. <br /> 8 For the purpose of this chapter, the following terms shall have the following <br /> 9 meanings: <br /> 10 A. MERCHANT PATROLMAN and/or SECURITY GUARD means any person <br /> 11 engaged in the merchant patrol business or security officer business, as these terms are <br /> 12 hereinafter defined, including employees of a merchant patrol agency. <br /> 13 B. MERCHANT PATROL AGENCY means any person, firm or corporation <br /> 14 engaged in the merchant patrol business, as that term is hereinafter defined, employing <br /> 15 one or more persons as employees, assistants, clerks or operatives. <br /> 16 C. SECURITY OFFICER AGENCY means any person, firm or corporation <br /> 17 engaged in the security officer business, as that term is hereinafter defined, employing <br /> 18 one or more persons as employees, assistants, clerks or operatives. All security officer <br /> 19 agencies shall comply with the same requirements as set forth herein for merchant <br /> 20 patrol agencies. <br /> 21 D. MERCHANT PATROL BUSINESS means the business of or the <br /> 22 representation of being engaged in the business for hire or reward, and, as an <br /> 23 independent contractor, of guarding or protecting persons or property or patrolling <br /> 24 buildings, streets or districts, for such purpose. <br /> 25 E. SECURITY OFFICER BUSINESS is the same as a merchant patrol <br /> 26 business, as defined herein, except that a security officer is attired in plain clothes (as <br /> 27 opposed to a uniform) and works primarily within one or more buildings for the purpose <br /> 28 of detecting persons who are committing crimes such as shoplifting and other related <br /> 29 offenses. Security officer business shall comply with all the requirements set forth <br /> 30 herein for a merchant patrol business. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
