Insulated <br /> gas-fired domestic water heaters shall not be installed closer than two (2) <br /> 19 inches to any combustible wall, partition or door nor closer than one (1) <br /> inch to any protected wall, partition or door. The clearances may be <br /> 20 reduced for appliances which are designed and listed or approved for <br /> installation adjacent to combustible materials and installed in accordance <br /> 21 with the conditions of such approval. A protected wall will be considered <br /> as such if it has one-fourth (Y4) inch of asbestos, covered with a No. 26 <br /> 22 gauge metal covering, or not less than one-hour fire resistive protection. <br /> 23 Section 2309 - Prohibited Locations <br /> 24 No water heater which depends on the combustion of fuel for heat shall be <br /> installed in any room used or designed to be used for sleeping purposes, <br /> 25 bathroom, clothes closet, or in any closet or other confined space opening <br /> into any bath or bedroom. <br /> 26 <br /> Exception: Sealed combustion chamber-type water heaters. <br /> 27 <br /> Where not prohibited by other regulations, water heaters may be located <br /> 28 under a stairway and landing. <br /> 29 Section 2310 - Protection from Damage <br /> 30 (a) Water heaters generating a glow, spark or flame capable or <br /> igniting flammable vapors may be installed in a residential <br /> 31 garage provided the pilots and burners, or heating elements <br /> and switches, are at least eighteen (18) inches above the <br /> 32 floor level. <br /> - 17 - <br />
