• <br /> 1 Attic water heater locations shall be provided with an electric light at or <br /> near the water heater. Such light shall be controlled by a switch located <br /> 2 adjacent to the opening or trap door. <br /> 3 An unobstructed solidly floored working space not less than thirty (30) <br /> inches in depth and thirty-six (36) inches in width shall be provided <br /> 4 immediately in front of the firebox access opening. A door opening into <br /> such space shall be considered as an obstruction. <br /> 5 <br /> Section 2312 - Venting of Water Heaters - General <br /> 6 <br /> (a) Every water heater designed to be vented shall be connected <br /> 7 to a venting system and such system shall comply with the <br /> provisions of this Chapter, except as provided in this <br /> 8 Section. <br /> 9 (b) Venting systems shall consist of approved chimneys, Type B <br /> vents, Type L vents or a venting assembly which is an <br /> 10 integral part of a listed appliance. <br /> 11 (c) Venting systems shall be so designed and constructed as to <br /> develop a positive flow adequate to convey all products of <br /> 12 combustion to the outside atmosphere. <br /> 13 (d) Venting systems may be designed in accordance with the <br /> accepted engineering methods when such design method has <br /> 14 been approved by the Building Official. <br /> 15 (e) A venting system which is an integral part of the vented <br /> appliance shall be installed in accordance with the terms of <br /> 16 its listing, manufacturer's installation requirements, and <br /> applicable requirements of this Code. <br /> 17 <br /> (f) Every factory-built chimney, Type B gas vent, or Type L <br /> 18 vent shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's <br /> instructions, the terms of its listing and to the applicable <br /> 19 requirements of this Code. <br /> 20 (g) Every metal chimney shall be installed according to the <br /> applicable requirements of this Chapter. <br /> 21 <br /> (h) Any unused opening in any venting system shall be closed or <br /> 22 capped to the satisfaction of the Building Official. <br /> 23 Section 2313 - Limitations <br /> 24 (a) Type B vents shall not be used for venting the following: <br /> 25 1. Water heaters which may be converted readily to the <br /> use of solid or liquid fuels; <br /> 26 <br /> 2. Water heaters listed for use with chimneys only. <br /> 27 <br /> (b) Dampers: Manually operated dampers shall not be placed in <br /> 28 chimneys, vents, chimney or vent connectors of fuel burning <br /> water heaters. Fixed baffles on the water heater side of <br /> 29 draft hoods and draft regulators shall not be classified as <br /> dampers. <br /> 30 <br /> Section 2314 - Vent Connector <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br /> - 19 - <br />
