That Section 1413 of the Uniform Building Code be, and is hereby <br /> 6 amended by deleting: <br /> 7 Section 1413. Every dwelling and guest room in lodging houses shall be <br /> provided with a smoke detector conforming to U.B.C. Standard No. 43-6. <br /> 8 The detector shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall at a point centrally <br /> located in the corridor or area giving access to rooms used for sleeping <br /> 9 purposes. Where sleeping rooms are on an upper level, the detector shall <br /> be placed at the center of the ceiling directly above the stairway. All <br /> 10 detectors shall be located within 12 inches of the ceiling. Care shall be <br /> exercised to insure that the installation will not interfere with the <br /> 11 operating characteristics of the detector. When activated, the detector <br /> shall provide an alarm in the dwelling unit or guest room. <br /> 12 <br /> and inserting in its place: <br /> 13 <br /> Section 1413 (a). In all dwellings, hotels, motels, apartment houses, <br /> 14 convents, monasteries and lodging houses containing more than 15 <br /> apartments, sleeping rooms, or dwelling units shall be provided with a <br /> 15 smoke detection-fire alarm system in compliance with Section 13.307 of <br /> the Uniform Fire Code. <br /> 16 <br /> Section 1413 (b). Provisions shall be made for the control and drainage of surface <br /> water around buildings by: gutters, drain lines, inlets and catch <br /> 28 basins or other necessary drainage structures and shall be installed <br /> where storm water disposal cannot be obtained without their use or <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br /> - 6 - <br />
