That Section 1413 of the Uniform Building Code be, and is hereby 6 amended by deleting: 7 Section 1413. Every dwelling and guest room in lodging houses shall be provided with a smoke detector conforming to U.B.C. Standard No. 43-6. 8 The detector shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall at a point centrally located in the corridor or area giving access to rooms used for sleeping 9 purposes. Where sleeping rooms are on an upper level, the detector shall be placed at the center of the ceiling directly above the stairway. All 10 detectors shall be located within 12 inches of the ceiling. Care shall be exercised to insure that the installation will not interfere with the 11 operating characteristics of the detector.
