ORDINANCE NO. 4L.1 - 7'7 AN ORDINANCE authorizing the design and construction of a new concrete prestressed girder bridge to replace the existing Maple Heights timber trestle bridge and creating a special design and construction fund entitled "Maple Heights Bridge Replacement". WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Everett is aware of the hazards to pedestrians and motor vehicles at the existing Maple Heights Bridge crossing due to the substandard width of the structure; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Everett is aware that the existing structure is nearing the end of its useful lifespan and load limitations have been placed on the structure; and WHEREAS, at an open house meeting at View Ridge School on April 19, 1977, 100% of all persons in attendance expressed the position that the existing structure was dangerous and should be replaced; and WHEREAS, the City Council in June 1975 did pass Ordinance No. 359-75 which appropriated $48,000 for the Phase I preliminary design study and Phase II detail design phase with the understanding that additional funding might be required at a later date to complete Phase II; and WHEREAS, the City Council on May 18, 1977, after reviewing the Phase I preliminary design study did select the Concrete Prestressed Girder (Alternate #3) as the recommended choice for a structure to replace the existing Maple Heights Bridge and by Resolution 1298, directed the Mayor to prepare this Plans and Systems Ordinance which officially authorizes and funds the detail design and construction of this structure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED THAT: Section 1 A special design and construction fund is hereby established as Furid No. 321 entitled MAPLE HEIGHTS BRIDGE REPLACEMENT. All revenue and expenditures for the design, construction and associated activities required to design and construct the improvement shall be recorded in this fund. Section 2 Approval of the "Supplemental Agreement to Phase I Maple Heights Bridge Preliminary Engineering Study to provide for Phase II follow- on detail design and Phase III construction support," for a cost not to exceed $50,600 is hereby granted and the Mayor is authorized to enter into formal contract with the consultant for the design of the replacement structure based on design Alternate Number 3 (Concrete Prestressed Girder) as presented in the Preliminary Design Study.
