<br /> AN ORDINANCE providing for the protection of the
<br /> public health and safety; requiring permits for
<br /> the installation, alteration, maintenance and
<br /> repair of electrical wires, equipment and apparatus;
<br /> creating a board of appeals, and prescribing their
<br /> duties; defining certain terms, establishing minimum
<br /> regulations for electrical systems and inspection
<br /> thereof and amending Chapter 16.36 by repealing
<br /> Ordinance 299-74 and all other Ordinances and Parts
<br /> of Ordinances in conflict herewith; and providing for
<br /> the adoption, by reference, of the National Electrical
<br /> Code, 1975 Edition, the Department of Labor and
<br /> Industries, Rules and Regulations for Installing
<br /> Electrical Wires and Equipment and Administrative
<br /> Rules, April 1, 1972; the Department of Labor and
<br /> Industries Electrical Installations Law, December 1,
<br /> 1972; The Department of Labor and Industries Rules
<br /> for Electrical Construction, Revised September 1965;
<br /> The Department of Labor and Industries Rules and
<br /> Regulations for Mobile Homes, Commercial Coaches
<br /> and Recreational Vehicles, Revised January 1, 1972;
<br /> and the Department of Labor and Industries Electrical
<br /> Construction Code, December 1, 1964; providing for
<br /> permits and fees.
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN:
<br /> Section 1: That Chapter 16.36 be and is hereby amended by
<br /> repealing Ordinance 299-74 and all other Ordinances and Parts of
<br /> Ordinances in conflict herewith, and by adopting The National Electrical
<br /> Code, 1975 Edition, as promulgated by the National Fire Protection
<br /> Association; the Department of Labor and Industries, Electrical Division,
<br /> Rules and Regulations for Installing Electric Wires and Equipment and
<br /> Administration Rules, September 4, 1975; the Department of Labor and
<br /> Industries Electric Installations Law, December 1, 1972; the Department
<br /> of Labor and Industries, Rules for Electrical Construction, Revised
<br /> September 1965, subject to amendments, modifications and additions
<br /> hereinafter set forth are adopted as the Electrical Code and Ordinance
<br /> of the City of Everett and such code by reference is made a part of this
<br /> chapter as though set forth fully at length herein. Three copies of
<br /> which are on file with the City Clerk for use by the public for reference.
<br /> Section 2: Where, in any specific case, different sections of this
<br /> Ordinance conflict, the most restrictive shall prevail.
<br /> Section 3: EXISTING BUILDINGS. Buildings or structures to which
<br /> additions, alterations, or repairs are made to electrical system, including
<br /> any and all electrical wires, services, equipment and apparatus are made
<br /> shall comply with all the requirements for new work in buildings and
<br /> structures as set forth in this Ordinance except as specifically provided
<br /> for in this Section.
<br /> a. When additions, alterations, or repairs within a 12-month
<br /> period exceed 50 percent of the existing system, such
<br /> system shall be made to conform to all of the requirements
<br /> of this code.
<br /> b. When additions, alterations, or repairs within a 12-month
<br /> period do not exceed 50 percent of the existing system,
<br /> the entire system need not be made to comply with all of
<br /> the provisions of this code except that all new work shall
<br /> be installed as set forth in this code.
<br /> c. In the event of unsafe or hazardous wiring, Section 11
<br /> shall take precedence.
