After self-introduction of those present Mr. Nash
outlined the procedure that wilt be followed for this meeting.
Sam Preston, Assistant Fire Marshal, spoke for the city and made the following
points:
This occupancy is utilizing approximately 9,000 square feet as an assembly area.
The building is Type 4-N construction and has been used in the past exclusively as
a business type occupancy - not as an assembly use. Tte occupant load for this
type of use (A-2.1) is 597 persons. The building code does not allow an A-2.1
occupancy in 'fype V- construction (249 maximum occupant load),
Lorated at the south end of the bingo facility is a furniture store with an attic
space above which is used for storage, thus providing a substantial fire load. The
occupancy to the north is basically office use and does not pose as qreat a threat
to life safety as the use to the south. The Fire Marshal is askin that if the
appeal is successful that the Boys' and Girls' Club's facility be made to conform
to code.
Leonard Nash asked if any of the requested corrections have been made. The reply
was affirmative.
Bert Cronin, Jr. explained that Don Uglem had business away fro Everett and is not
available today. He stated that they have constructed draft stops (5/8" gyp board)
to reduce the upstairs area to less than 3,000 square feet. A new electrical
service and iiluminated exits have been installed. They had not been aware of
ocrupancy requirements.
