Bill Finley said that the Boys' and 6irls' Club would be wiliing to provide a
system of alarms that would be acceptable to the Fire Marshal.
The ciY.y has askeG for a one-hour occupancy separation. Subsequently, the north
and south separation walls in the attic area have been provided with two layers
of sheetrock. The rating of the separation walls on the lower floor is unknown
as the make up of the walls is undetermined.
Leonard Nash asked if the required number of exits have been provided. The reply
was affirmative.
Ben Newland asked if improvements in terms of an alarm system would satisfy the
Fire Department. Walt Cooper responded that with detectors, alarms, and an
extension of the alarm system into the furniture store to the south along with
battery back-up in the exit lights, he would feel confident that people would be
safe.
Mr. Cronin said that he wouid agree to that and that the average attendance was
180 persons with a high of 215. San Preston pointed out that this is a new
occupancy and, if successful, can expect to draw more than 300 persons as another
bingo operation in the area has done.
Stan Score asked if smoking is allowed during bingo games and was told that yes,
it is.
Leonard Nash asked if the exit doors are equipped with panic hardware and the
reply was yes.
John Bryant asked what exactly the Buildir. Department is asking for and oug
Budden's response follows:
An acceptable fire alarm system tie installe.
2. The separation rating on the fire wall is undetermined but the
department would be willing to accept double layers of 5/9" gyp
board on one side.
3. The strucLural inte9rity of the attic area is of great concern as
the draft curtains impose a substantial load. The department would
request an engineer's report on the attic area.
4. A stop must be installed on the front exit door so that it swings
only in the diiection of exit travel.
5. Two pathway lights must be installed between the two large assembly
rooms.
Mr. Cronin mentioned that when their operation was located in Lynnwood the oniy
restrictions they had to deal with was an occupant load of less than 300 and
proper exiting had to be proviAed. He said that 90"., of all bingo games are held
in older buildings and the Boys' and Giris' Club use will be in one of the best
- 2 -
