. . .SI AdaDt
Footine Dimensions: We recommend that the thickened edge of'the slab be designed as a sprear footing
and be constructed to have a minimum width of 12-inches. For frost protection, the footir;gs should
penetrate at least 18-inches below the lowest adjacent exterior grades. Footings may also be supported on
stnctural fill placed on a prepared soil subgrade. The horizontal limiu of the fill pad belov: the building
or cabinet foundation may be established by extending a line outward from the base of the thickenel slab
at an angle o1' 1 Horizontal: ] Vertical (1H: 1 V) down to the upper surface of the bearing horizon.
Bearine Pressure: At the location of boring B-1, the near surficiai soil should be stripped, excavated to a
depth of at least 1S-inches below the lowest adjacent grade. The soils at that elevation should be
compacted in place if the moisture content allows, resulting in a firm and unyielding subgrade ,;ondition.
Altematively, the cabinets could be supponed above a maximum thickness of two feet of compacted fill,
underlain by a layer o1'geotextile (filter fabric), if required. A maximum allovable soil bearing pressure
of I,200 pounds per-square-foot can be used for static footing loads. This bearing pressure can be
increased by one-third ro accommodate transient wind or seismic loads. An allowable basc friction
coefftcient of 0.32 and an allowable passive earih pressure of 250 pounds per cubic foot (pc, expressed
as an equivalent fluid unit weight, may be used for that portion of the foundation embedded more than 1
foot below finished eaterior subgrade elevation.
Settlements: We estimate that total post-construction settlements of properly designed footings bearing
on propedy prepared subgrades could approach 1-inch, with differentia] setAements approaching one-half
of the totals.
Access Driveivap
The proposed tower lease area can be accessed from Evergreen R'ay via the asphalt parking lot. The
construction of a separate access drive does not appear necessary. Should it become necessary to locally
grade or improve the existing unimproved driveway or parking lot ro provide access for heavy equipment,
site preparation and swchiral fill placement should be accomplished as outlined in this report.
Toicr Mat Fourdations
Based upon the su- +ce soil and eroundwater conditions disclosed by our test boring, as a construction
expedient and in o,., .o limit site disturbance, we recommend the tower be supported on a drilled pier
foundation. Site conditions would be difficult for a mat foundation owinvg to the soh and or loose soils
at or belcw the likely bearing elevation for a mat foundations, from a geotechnical standpoinL If 3print
PCS elects to use a mat founda[ion at this site, Adapt should be contacted 1'or mat foundation desitm
criteria.
Spnnt I'CS O
Adapt Projeci No. \\'A07-y72U P.ugus 4.?003 /
PageS /]
