l.;
August 6, 2008
.0 Steve Miller
Associate Engineer
Engineering/ Public Service Department
City of Everett
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
Re: Owner: Everett Shipyard
Job Address: 2730 Federal Ave
Plan Check No.: B0807-020
Dear Mr. Miller,
Please find attached revised plans and other submission in respect of the issues
raised in your letter dated July 22, 2008. Your issues are addressed below:
1) Section 704.8 requirements:
Pursuant to your request we have submitted a the revised site plan move the
building 10 feet from the north lease line, (versus 5 feet previously);
2) Section 16.76 Automatic Sprinkler System:
The building subject to permit is a covered work space for metal welding and
fabrication. The roof and superstructure will be made entirely of non-combustible
material. Given the use, practical options are not available for an automatic
sprinkler system that would not be constantly triggered by false positive
indications. In lieu of an automatic sprinkler system we propose the addition of a
water monitor capable of reaching all areas of the work space. Such an approach
has the additional advantage of providing additional fire protection to other areas
of the facility. The particular water monitor is shown in Attachment A with its
reach characteristic as provided by the manufacturer provide in Attachment B.
3) Section 16.76 Automatic Fire Detection System:
For the reasons outline above, an automatic fire detection system is not
practical. In lieu of such a system we propose adding fire alarm boxes at each
end of the work structure (i.e., at all times workers would be no more than 100
feet from a fire alarm box), a fire warning siren and a clearly marked evacuation
assembly area.
We are hopeful that these revisions will address your concerns while enhancing
fire protection for the site as a whole.
Should you have any questions or need any further information please do not
hesitate to contact me.
President
