CURRENT CONDITIONS SUMMARY
The existing storm drainage from the east Everett Community College parking lots adjacent to
Broadway Ave.and 10th Street is discharged to the existing 8 inch combined sewer main in
Broadway Ave(See Current Condition Map). The 8 inch combined sewer main runs north along
Broadway Ave.and connects to the 42 inch combined sewer trunk main in the golf course north
of the college. Drainage from the roof of the Instructional Technology Center(ITC)and 1.3
acres of surrounding area discharges to the 8 inch combined sewer main at the north end of
Broadway Ave.at Tower St. During an intense storm in 1998 it was reported that excessive
runoff caused a surcharge in the combined sewer system which flooded basements on the east
side of Broadway Ave.between 10th St.and Tower St.
PROPOSED IMPORVEMENTS SUMMARY
To alleviate future capacity problems in the existing 8 inch combined sewer main,a storm drain
system will connect to the Everett Community College east parking lots. The system will run
north along the west side of Broadway Ave.within the landscape area between the sidewalk and
parking lots and intercept the surface flows from the parking lots and ITC area(See Proposed
Improvements Map). The connections to the existing 8 inch combined sewer will be cut, capped
and abandoned_ The proposed line will run east down the north edge of Tower St.and then turn
north on Waverly Ave. and tie into an existing manhole on the 42"combined sewer trunk main.
(See Storm Drainage Plans,. _ pendix B) At this time no additional drainage will be picked up
along Tower St.or Waverly Ave.although the line will be sized to accommodate future
expansion of the college campus east of Broadway(See Assumed Future Expansion Map).
The sidewalk on the west side of Broadway Ave. will be extended to meet the sidewalk along the
north side of Tower St. Additional sidewalk will be constructed along the south side of Tower
St.at Broadway.
Everett Community College February 8,2001
Stormwater Hydraulics Report -2
Reid iddletnn.
