The design of the exterior canopy with the exposed steel members would require an
intumescent paint coating that would provide the fire protection required by Table 601.
However, when the pricing was provided by the manufacturer for the intumescent paint, factory
and field application, the project was determined to be in jeopardy due to the project funding
available.
As a result, last May we approached you and Tony once again to seek an `Alternate Means and
Methods' approach that would be acceptable. In lieu of a tested assembly for the structure we
proposed a `sidewall dry sprinkler head' system that could provide sprinkler coverage over the
top of the canopy structure. The intent of this approach would be able to provide suppression
over the proposed canopy and provide protection of the existing building. This sprinkler design
could take advantage of the existing wet sprinkler system within the building connected to
exterior wall mounted dry sprinkler heads. McKinstry who is a company that provides fire
sprinkler design and is a `Certificate of Competency' holder in the State of Washington
discussed this Mr. Jim Venturo of the Everett Fire Department. It is our understanding that the
result of the discussion is that this was an acceptable solution to Mr. Venturo, thus addressing LR-iit
the last issue.
rn
We truly appreciate your willingness in trying to assist us in finding a solution to this challenge.
Please feel free to call me at (425) 259-0868 if you have any further questions or need
additional information regarding this submittal.
Sincerely,
BOTESCH, NASH & HALL A CHITECTS, P.S.
CLp...--,.3-4r-
Devin Saylor, AIA
Senior Associate
2 \ . l j
