Transportation to our OSB facility in Everett is arranged by the individual school districts. A clear
delineation of how the children will be brought to our facility is a key part of our contractual arrangement
for services to the schools. Some transportation is undertaken by school personnel. Other districts and
schools use qualified volunteers, including off-duty firemen, drivers from Catholic Community Services, PTA
members, parents, and service club members, like Rotary.
Coming to OSB is very much like visiting a good-quality clothing store, but the attention given to the specific
needs of the individual child is substantially greater. ALE is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff.
For this reason, we can spend abundant time with every boy or girl who comes to our facility. For the in-
facility program, each child is accompanied by a volunteer who acts as their personal shopper. This ensures
that the children will receive clothing that they like and that they will wear with pride. It also ensures that
each item will fit properly. OSB is direct, effective, and popular with parents, children, teachers, and
administrators. Children, and especially younger children, enjoy the experience and look forward to their
visit. A visit to OSB is an esteem-building process in itself.
Teen Retail services for high school students are concentrated in the fall. ALE volunteers are always on
hand at Fred Meyer for the shopping and checkout to ensure that only school clothes are purchased and
that there is full accountability for funders.
B.
