Water: Clear potable water free from injurious amounts of oil, salts, alkali, organic matter or <br /> other deleterious substances. <br /> 2.3 Expansion Joints: <br /> A. Pre-molded asphalt expansion joints, 1/2"thick. <br /> 2.4 Base Course: <br /> A. Crushed surfacing base course material is 5/8" minus crushed rock. Minimum depth of Base <br /> Course Material will be 4"in all instances. <br /> 2.5 Form Materials: <br /> A. Use for all exposed work: New"Plyform"grade Douglas fir,edge sealed and factory treated with <br /> form sealer. If forms are not new obtain approval before using. Provide form materials with <br /> sufficient stability to withstand pressure of placed concrete without bow or deflection. <br /> 2.6 Reinforcing Materials: <br /> A. Deformed reinforcing bars:ASTM A 615,Grade 60 unless otherwise indicated. <br /> B. Welded Wire Fabric: ASTM A 185. No roll stock allowed. <br /> PART 3—EXECUTION <br /> 3.1 Concrete: <br /> A. Notification: Notify Landscape Architect (425-881-2426) a minimum of 48 hours notice before <br /> placing concrete. <br /> B. Ready-Mix Concrete: Ready-mix concrete shall be batched at a central batching plant and transit- <br /> mixed in truck mixers, in accordance with the requirements of ASTM Designation C94. The <br /> Contractor shall furnish batching weights of all ingredients per cubic yard when so requested. <br /> The total elapsed time between introduction of mixing water to the batch and placing the concrete <br /> shall not exceed sixty minutes. <br /> C. Concrete Consistency: Concrete shall be of a consistency suitable for satisfactory placement. <br /> Slump for concrete shall be as specified above. The water-cement ratio shall be maintained to <br /> produce concrete of the strength specified. <br /> D. Placing Concrete: Convey concrete from mixer to place of final deposit by methods that will <br /> prevent separation and loss of materials. Deposit concrete as nearly as possible in its final <br /> position to avoid segregation due to re-handling and flowing. Concrete will be deposited in <br /> uniform horizontal layers,avoiding inclined planes. Each layer will be placed before the previous <br /> layer has taken its initial set. Concrete shall be compacted as it is placed, to obtain maximum <br /> density and to eliminate voids and rock pockets,by means of hand spading,rodding, and tamping <br /> as required. <br /> E. Reinforced Steel: Accurately place all reinforced steel with a minimum 2"cover. <br /> F. Install welded wire fabric in as long lengths as practicable,lapping at least one mesh. <br /> G. Place concrete only after all preparations for placing have been made by the Contractor and when <br /> the Landscape Architect and Owner has approved the layout and installation of forms and <br /> reinforcements. <br /> H. Rate of concrete placement shall not exceed rate at which the various placing and finishing <br /> operations can be performed in accordance with these specifications. <br /> I. Protect concrete from physical damage or reduced strength due to weather extremes during <br /> mixing,placement or curing. In hot weather,comply with ACI 305. <br /> 3.2 Subgrade: <br /> CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE 32 16 00-2 <br />
