GE 0 DES1GNP FIELD REPORT
Project Name: Everett River Front-Simpson Report: 068
GeoDesign#: Polygon-127-03 Date: 08/03/2017
Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW 1505-005
Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) Randy Allen(City of Everett) Weather.Clear,60-80's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1015/1415
Distribution:
Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett)
Paul McKee(City of Everett) 1 Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Ben Weinberg, EIT
m Site Plan(s) 0 Density Test Summary Signature: 7,4--
Attachments: 0 Installation Records m Other Reviewed By: RL
PURPOSE of VISIT:GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Leroy with BDZ to
observe foundation subgrade for Lots 246 and 247.
SUMMARY of OBSERVATIONS:
LOT 246:
Previously GeoDesign noted that BDZ had over-excavated the east 2/3 of the Lot 246 area approximately 4 to 5 feet down
to firm and unyielding material and partially backfilled the area with a cement-treated material.Today, GeoDesign noted that
the contractor completed over-excavation and backfilling the over-excavated areas to near plan bottom of footing.
GeoDesign noted that the cement dust was added to stockpiles of material outside the foundation area and thoroughly
mixed using the bucket of an excavator. GeoDesign noted that the material was mixed, placed, and spread in
approximately 18 inch loose lifts using a Komatsu PC300 excavator and compacted into a firm and unyielding mass using
an excavator-mounted hoepack(AM)and a smooth-drum vibratory roller(PM). Penetration depths encountered for the
material placed could generally be probed 2-4 inches shortly after compaction;the top 1.5 feet of material for the west 1/3 of
the lot area could be probed 1.5 feet shortly after compaction, which appeared to be associated with its higher moisture
content. GeoDesign will verify that the cement treated material cures into a firm and unyielding mass at a later date.
LOT 247:
Today, GeoDesign noted that BDZ completed excavation of the east 1/3 of the Lot 247 area down to firm and unyielding
material, which required 4-5 feet of over-excavation, using a Komatsu PC300 excavator. GeoDesign noted that the
exposed base of the over-excavated area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND with gravel which could be
probed less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. After observing the base of the over-excavated area,
GeoDesign notified Leroy with BDZ that the over-excavated lot area was currently suitable for placement of backfill material.
No backfill material was placed for the over-excavated area for Lot 247 today.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
spedfications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not indude supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By"section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
7.
