Cc:Jack Molver<Jnm@deainc.com>;Sabrina Fandler<SFandler@everettwa.gov>
Subject: RE: Revision to FedEx storm drain plan
Hi Brett,
I do like the idea and I think we can accept this in principal. However, I do have a couple
comments/concerns/clarifications:
1. The pipe anchor material submittal you provided only provides part of the story. The socket clamp seems
reasonable, although you'll want to make sure that it is oversized to allow the pipe to slide through it when it
moves due to temperature changes. However, there is no indication in the info you submitted about how the
clamp will be anchored. It should be easy enough to do (T-posts?), but the whole mechanism should be
identified in the documents. We'll want to include a detail in the plans(at least the as-builts) in case someone in
the future has to replace/repair them. Also, will this clamp work with the two parallel pipes?
2. DCSS Section 4-2.5 has minimum requirements for outfall designs based on velocity(the same table is in the
Ecology manual).Without doing the calcs I don't know what the discharge velocity will be, but I anticipate that it
will be in the 20+fps category. (Theoretically it could be as high as 50 fps based on 40 feet of elevation
difference.)As such I think we'll need something from you declaring(with stamp)that you "engineered"this
outfall.Since this is low risk condition I'll leave it up to you what form that will take.
Feel free to give me a call if you want to discuss either of these. You'll have to coordinate with Sabrina as far as the
requirements for submitting revised drawings. Unfortunately she's in training all week, but she is checking and
responding to emails intermittently.
Erik Emerson PE
City of Everett, Public Works
Senior Surface Water Engineer
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
Direct: 425-257-8995, Fax: (425)257-8882
eemerson@everettwa.gov
From: Brett Nicholson [mailto:Bjn(adeainc.com]
Sent: Friday, October 06, 2017 4:57 PM
To: Erik Emerson
Cc: Jack Molver; Sabrina Fandler
Subject: RE: Revision to FedEx storm drain plan
Eric,
Please find attached the revised revision plans per our conversation this morning. I created a profile view of the pipes on
the slope for additional information.
I have also attached the proposed pipe anchor submittal.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Have a good weekend,
Brett Nicholson, PE
