Your letter contained a total of four comments. Geotechnical 1. Site Class E: The design was based on Site Class E,using the exception in ASCE 7-10, Section 20.2.1, that allows the use of Site Class E if the building period is less than 0.5 seconds. Per Varco Pruden's Codes and Loads summary, the building has a fundamental period in the transverse direction of 0.317 seconds and a period in the longitudinal direction of 0.195 seconds. Values of Fa=0.9 and Fv=2.4 were taken from ASCE 7-10, Tables 11.4-1 and 11.4-2. These values were provided to Varco Pruden. As noted in the response to Geotechnical Comment 2,the values of Fa and Fv in Shannon&Wilson's geotechnical report did not match Tables 11.4-1 and 11.4-2. See response to Geotechnical Comment 2. 2. Values for Fa and Fv: Reid Middleton notified Shannon&Wilson that the values for Fa and Fv specified in their geotechnical report did not agree with ASCE 7-10 Tables 11.4-1 and 11.4-2. However,the correct values of Fa=0.9 and Fv=2.4 were provided to Varco Pruden as part of the design criteria for the project.
