Mr. John Day
Slichter Ugrin Architecture
Plan Check Number: B1709-015, First Review
April 27, 2018
. Detail 2-2A/S2.1 requires two 3/4"lag screws across the width of the framing. A note should be
added requiring the screws to maintain a minimum 1.5D edge distance per NDS-15 Tables
12.5.1C and 12.5.1E. See IBC Section 2306.1.
vSection 2/52.1 specifies an "HU"-hanger at each end of the 6x8 blocking. The following
comments should be addressed:
a. The size and orientation (e.g., standard or inverted) of the HU-hanger should be specified.
See IBC Section 107.2.1.
b. Documentation substantiating the capacity and performance of the hanger should be
submitted for review, including verification to the applicable design loads in both directions
(i.e., up and down). Based on the framing plan on Sheet S2.0, many of the braces are
located close to one end of the blocking, and therefore the full load from the braces should
be applied to one end of the blocking.
aarSection 1/S2.1 indicates blocking will be provided for the connection outside the building wall
perimeter. However, the framing plan on Sheet S2.0 does not appear to provide adjacent
primary framing for the blocking to span between on the east and west sides of the building.
In addition, the location and thickness of the framing on the north and south sides do not
appear consistent and adequate to be compatible with the connections shown in Section
1/S2.1 and 3/S2.1. The structural design should be reviewed and revised as needed.
Calculations substanting the revised design should be submitted for review. See IBC Sections
107.2.1, 1603.1, and 1604.1.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer/ Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\BMarti n\2017\81709-015.docx
Pagc 6 of-5--'
CITY OF EVERETT• 3200 Cedar Street • Everett,WA 98201 • (425) 257-8810 • Fax(425) 257-8857 ---)
