Ait gaps and reduced <br />pressure bacl�low asseniblies aze required wherever a potential health hazazd exists. <br />Tbe Ciry of Everett's har,kflow prevention program is based on WAC 248-54-285 and Everett Municipal <br />Code 14.20. <br />Plan approva] does not constitute approval of a backflow prevendon system. A sepatate backflow <br />prevention system must ae obtained from the Utiliries staff prior to initiation of water service. <br />5-4 EXISTING iITILII'IES <br />When utility services oc:upy the same space as the new water main, the connactor shall do all necessary <br />excavation to fully expc�se such servir,es. The contractor shall protect said services and work azound <br />them during excavating and pipe laying ope�.atioas. The con�accor shall be responsible for all damages <br />to the services due to his operatiou and shall immediately notify the engineer and arrange for replacement <br />of all damaged services. <br />In the event of confliet, the con�actor shall remove and restore existing cateh basin connecdons, inlet <br />conuections, drains, side sewers,..inlets, and other sewerage and drainage facilides. All restotarion shall <br />be constructed to ciry scindards.;.Water main pipe shall be iastalled to clear mainline sewers and stotm <br />drains. <br />Tt is anticipated lhat thF: contractor will encounter private water service utilities (water service lines <br />ruiuiing between die Cit� Wates Division uniun and private residences) during work operauons. Records <br />of these urlities aze not naintained by [he city and will not be field focated by the City Water division. It <br />shall be �he contractor's respons�iliry to asceriain the locatioa of and protect these private utilities from <br />dama�e. <br />Elds of abandoned watec main shall be plugged by fillivg with Class 3000 or Commercial Concrete for a <br />minimum longitudiaal length of twelve (12) fnc6es. <br />5-5 FII2E kZ,O�'Y <br />The fire flow requiremenrs are calculated by the Fire Depazanent. T'he U[iliries bivision will evaluate <br />whether the existing sysu;m will meet that requirement or if systern improvements are required. Due to <br />seasonal and otber vanatles associated with flow tests, these flow tests will not be used to measure the <br />systen's ability to meet Uic fire :low requirements. <br />5-G P1PE AND F1T"i�VG,S FOI2 WATER MAINS <br />5-6.1 DESCRIPTId�N <br />The work included in th_ following sections shall apply to tve constructiou of water distribution and <br />fransmission mains and aFpurtenances for both tcmporary and perui,weni installation. <br />5-6,2 MATEIi7ALS <br />All water main distriburicn piping shall be ductile iron pipe, cement lined, standard thic�ess Class 52, <br />unless otheraise specified and shall conform to ffie standards of U5A Standard A-21.51 (AWWA G151), <br />and be installed in accord;mce with the mani�facturer's recommendations. Any deviation from ttils policy <br />mus� be approved by the iJtilities on tbe plans for the project. <br />Galvanized 'uon pipe and iitrings, where specified shall be standard weight Schedule 40.
