The contractor shall verify the dimensions, type, and condidon of the <br />existing water main. The profile sball be adjusced so neither a high spot nor a low spot is created <br />aAjacent to the connecuo�i to the existing water mains. <br />Th_ m;n;,r,um cover for water mains 12 inches in diameter or smaller shall be 36 inches to the top of <br />pipe. The m;n;mum co�•er for water mains over 12 inches in diameter shall be 48 inches to the top of <br />r�ipe. The maxi�mum depth shall not be greater than 60 inches to the top of pipe. <br />All depths both minimum and maximum shall be from finish grades and shall be adhered to unless <br />approved by TJtilities in wri�ing. The water line and hydrants sLall be iasialled by line and grade <br />informadon as supplied by a survey. <br />5-7.4 TR�NCH EXCAVATION <br />5-7.4(i) GENERAL <br />The contractor shall perb�rm all excavauon of every description and of whatever materials encountered. <br />All excavations shall be naade by open cut unless otherwise provided for. T'he boRom of trenches shall be <br />accurately graded to provide uniform bearing and support for each ]ength of pipe on undisturbed or <br />ccmpacted soil at every point along its entire length, except at the joints. <br />IIell holes shall be excavated to the extent necessary to I_emut accurate work in making and iaspecting the <br />joints. The banks of the trenches shal] be kep[ as ne:uly vertical as soil conditions anll permit.
