Trench water o r other delecerious materials shall not be allowed to enter the pipe at any time. <br />5-S.Z HANDLING UF PIPE <br />All types of pipe shall tie l�andled in a n�.wner that will prevent damage to the pipe, pipe linir.a or <br />coaung. Pipe and fittings shall be loaded and unloaded using hoisu and slings in a manner to avoid shock <br />or damage, and under no circumstances shall they be dropped, skidded, or rolled agairs: other pipe. <br />Damaged pipe will be reiectcd, and the contractor shall immediately place all damaged p�pe apart from <br />the :mdamaged and shall �'emove tbe damaged pipe from the site within 24 hours. <br />Methods of Landling shall be cozrected by the contractor if the engineer determines that these methods are <br />damaging ro the nipe. <br />All pipe [o be purchas:�.: und .^.stailea as a patt of the Ciry of Everett water system shall be delivered to <br />the job site or ciry yaz�i w1u, �Nater tight pipe plugs. Furthermore, to comply with City of Everett Design <br />and Consffuction Standards and AV✓WA Standards, thhese pipe plugs shall remain in place until the pipe is <br />ivstalled in the Vench at which time onr end plug would be removed for joining pipe ends. <br />If [here is any pipe not uieeting this requuement, the Ciry shall reject it, or under special cucun�stances <br />may allow that it be swabSed out with clilorine solution and capped before acceptance by the City. <br />llirt or other foreign mat?rial shall be prevented from entering the pipe or pipe joint during handling or <br />laying operations, and an�� pipe or fitting that has been installed with dut or foreign material ia it shall be <br />removed, cleancd, and refayed. A clean whisk broom shall be used for this purpose and for brushing to <br />remove foreign matter prior to joining of pipe ends. At tunes when pipe laying is not in progress, the <br />open ends of the pipe shal Be closed by a watertight plug or by other meaas approved.by the .engineer to <br />cnsure c:eanliness inside the pipe. <br />Pipe sball be stacked in sich a manner as to prevent damage to the pipe, to prevent dirt and debris from <br />entering the gipe, and to prevent any movement o# tbe pipe. The bottom riers of [he stack shall be kept <br />off tbe ground on timbers, rails or other similaz supports. Pipe on succeeding [iers shall be alternated by � <br />bell and plain end. Tinbrrs 4 inches by 4 inches in sue shall be placed between tiers and chocks shall be <br />placed at each end to prevent movement. For safety ea�h size of pipe shall be stacked separately. <br />5-8.3 CUTl'ING PII']'s <br />Whenever it becomes necessary to cut a length of pipe, the cut shall be made by abrasive saw or by a <br />special pipe cutter. All F�ipe ends sLall be square with the longitudinal axis of the pipe and the ouuide <br />shall be bevelled and oth�;rwise smoothed so that good connections can be made without damage to the <br />gasket.
