Valve boxes <br />shall be set flush in pave ment and gravel roads. Asphalt concrate is required in gravel roads 2 feet <br />round the valve box. R'ken the top of the valve operadon nui is more than 3 feet below finished grade, <br />a va]ve operator extensioa shall be installed per Standard No. 504. The minimum extension length shall <br />be 12 in�hes. <br />5-10.7 VALVE MARi�R POSTS <br />Marker posts per St2ndard No. 510 shall be installed for all valves located in unirnproved or unpaved <br />areas. Valve marker posw shall be se; as d'uected by thc public works inspector in a saie and ieasonable <br />conspicuous locauon. The distance to the valve is to be neady stenciled on the post with 2 inch numerals. <br />Valve marker posts are not required for auxiliary hydrant valves. <br />5-ll TiXARANTS <br />5-111 GENERAL <br />Fire, hydranu :hall be insWlled in accordance with Standard Plan No. 507, at locations as shown on the <br />approved p]ans. They shall be painced with 2 coats of high gloss Caterpilla: 'Y'ellow "Rust-Oleum" rype <br />paint, with the hose port ca��s painted black. <br />Hydrancs shall be the "Traffic Model" type with approved breakaway features. AII hydrants shall be <br />biass to brass subseat, minimum valve opening of 5-1/4 inches "O" ring stem seal, 6 inch mechanical or <br />flange shoe connection, i-1 /4 inch pentagonal operating nut. Approved models are listed on Standazd <br />Drawing No. 507. <br />All hydrants shall have a minimum of 2-1/2 iuch Nationa] Standard Threads and 1-5 inch Srora pumper <br />� muection. If adapters azr, to be used, the pumper conneetioa �shall be 41/2 inch National Standazd <br />. h•.ead a•ith the adapter atta;hed permanently as in the following requirements. <br />All hydranu shall�Lave a 5 ioch Stortz Metalface Adapter x female hydrant tfuead with cap. The adapter <br />shall be aluminum alloy (60�i1-T6 minimum) forged or exuvded and shall have a hardcoat anodized finish <br />to mil-A-8625c. The Stom adapter should be specified to meet a 500 psi test. <br />5-11.2 ADAPTER REQUIREMENTS <br />A. Overall diameter not to exceed 73/4 inches. <br />B.
