Drain lines from pumps or other <br />equipment sball he piped to a below grade drainage system connected to the station sump or drain. All <br />drams shall utilize either an air gap or approved bac.ld(ow prevention assembly to elimmate potential <br />contamination. <br />5-13 CONCRETE 7'HRUST BLOCKING <br />Concrete thiust blocking, as indicated on the Arawings and Siandard Plaas Nos. 505 aad 506, shall be <br />placed at bends, tees, dead ends, crosses and as designated by the engineer. Blocldng shall be Class 3000 <br />cuncrete mix poured in pl��ce. • <br />(:oncrete thrust blocks shall be cas[ in place xnd have a min;mnm of 1/4 square feet of bearing against tl�e <br />fining and 2 square feet of beazing against undisturbed so�; and shall be cleaz of joints so as to permit <br />•aY�ng up or dismanding �he joint. All poured in place blucking shall have a miuirnum measurement of <br />al inches between the pipe ��nd the undisturbed bank. All blocking configurations and sius shall be Fer <br />Standard Nos. 505 and SOC. All blocking as shown oc the Standards az: considered as minimums, a,�d <br />consideradon should be giv� to unusual cireumstances and topography. <br />Although, Standazd Plan Ptos. 505 and 506 will work quite adequately in many situations, Lty should not <br />be used to su6stitute for professional engineering design, particulazly in situations invp(ving lazge <br />diameter pipe lines (greaier than 12 inches), high velocity simations (greater than 10 ft/sec), or soils <br />where soil rype or srabilit� may be quesrionable. One of the more r mmon cases of thn�st block failure <br />is the installation of thrut�t blocks in unstable soil, or in ]ocations too close to ueuches for� other pipe <br />lines. <br />5-14 HYDROSTATIC PRESSU1tE TFST <br />.0'� water mains and appwtenances shall be hydrostatically tested az speeified in Secdon 7-11.3(11) of the <br />A'�DOT/APNA Srandard Specifications.
