Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada(RTC)/Las Vegas: In partnership with the
City of Las Vegas, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada(RTC) received a
$5.3 million BUILD grant from the U.S.Department of Transportation (DOT) in the most recent
funding round.
The federal money will be used for the Las Vegas Medical District Automated Circulator and
Pedestrian Safety Project,or GoMed. Once completed,it will connect downtown Las Vegas with the
Las Vegas Medical District via four autonomous shuttles.
Ms.Pollner, along with other members of the Holland&Knight team, helped work with the
Commission to craft the grant application and to help position it with DOT. We arranged meetings
with DOT before the application was due to ensure that senior staff understood the project's merits.
Furthermore,we secured letters of support and ensured that both Nevada senators made calls to
Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to advocate for the project.
Mayors&CEOs for U.S.Housing Investment: Recognizing the threat facing community development
and housing funding and the potential devastating consequences for homeless populations
nationwide,Ms.Pollner helped create an innovative public-private coalition of bipartisan mayors
and CEOs to highlight the importance of federal funding for affordable housing/homelessness and
community development.
Mayor Franklin recently joined the coalition, which now includes 23 Democratic and Republican
mayors from urban, rural, and suburban municipalities. All together, they represent more than 16
million Americans.
Five major CEOs,including Kaiser Permanente's Bernard Tyson, have also joined the coalition. In
addition, the group is supported through partnerships with the National League of Cities and the
National Alliance to End Homelessness.
In conjunction with the coalition's work,Kaiser recently announced they would make a historic
investment of$200 million in a Community Investment Fund to assist communities to combat
homelessness and support affordable housing. Kaiser has challenged other companies to do the
same. The coalition has also worked closely with bipartisan senators to create a new a new
program that provides housing paired with health and supportive services targeted to the homeless
and poorer neighborhoods. Holland&Knight expects legislation to be introduced in the 116th
Congress.
4.
