GeoDesign noted that the north, east, and south sides of the perimeter foundation generally consisted <br /> of a brown silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c) which could be penetrated from 1 to 3 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil <br /> probe under the full weight of the user; in-place density tests taken on the north, east,and south side indicated that the <br /> material had been compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor <br /> analysis. GeoDesign had previously noted that the west side of Lot 103 had consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with <br /> gravel (f-c) which could be probed approximately 18 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soi probe; GeoDesign recommended <br /> that the perimeter footing area along the west side of Lot 103 be over-excavated 1 foot, exposed soil compacted to greater <br /> than 95%of its maximum dry density, and backfilled to foundation subgrade with material compacted to greater than 95%of <br /> its maximum dry density.The contractor elected to over-excavate the west perimeter footing of Lot 103 approximately 2 feet <br /> and replace with a 2-inch clean crushed rock material. In-place density tests taken at the base of the over-excavated area <br /> indicated that the exposed material had been compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined by <br /> a Modified Proctor analysis. GeoDesign also noted that the over-excavated area was backfilled in approximately 1 foot lifts <br /> using the 2-inch clean crushed rock tampled into a firm and unyielding mass using the bucket of an excavator and <br /> compacted using a standard walk-behind plate compactor. <br /> It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade is currently suitable for support of the intended load. <br /> GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and/or saturated material be removed from the base of the footings prior <br /> to the placement of concrete. <br /> Lot 130: <br /> GeoDesign noted that the foundation excavation subcontractor had completed the footing and crawl space excavation prior <br /> to his arrival on-site. GeoDesign noted that exposed foundation subgrade generally consisted of a brown silty SAND <br /> (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could be penetrated generally less than 1 inch using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe under the full <br /> weight of the user; in-place density tests taken on the four sides of the foundation area indicated that the material had been <br /> compacted to greater than 95% of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis. GeoDesign noted <br /> an approximately 15 feet long section on the west end of the south side and 15 feet long section along the south end of the <br /> west side which could be probed approximately 18 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe; GeoDesign recommended <br /> that the material be over-excavated 2 feet and replaced with material compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry <br /> density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis;the contractor elected to backfill the over-excavated areas with a <br /> 2-inch clean crushed rock material tamped into a firm and unyielding mass using an excavator and a standard sled <br /> compactor. <br /> This report presents opinions formed as a result of cur observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services.We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and <br /> specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative.Ou-work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor,the contractor's employees <br /> or agents.
