s ACCESSIBILITY Accessibility upgrades are not required for this repair/alteration according to Section 410 of the IEBC,Accessibility for Existing Buildings. According to Exception 2 under 410.7, accessibility upgrades are not required for alterations limited solely to windows or hardware. Additionally, Exception 4 under 410.7 states that accessibility upgrades do not apply to alterations undertaken for the primary purpose of increasing the accessibility of a facility. The owner has chosen to install a new accessible and energy efficient door and our drawings specify a door with ADA compliant hardware,which does not mandate additional accessibility upgrades. CLOSING As we have discussed with you,there is limited existing wall/wall stiffness provided at the front(west side)of the building. We are not indicating that the existing configuration of the front of the structure is adequate to support the current code-required lateral loads;we are only informing you that the code does not require a review of this area due to the limited damage that occurred as a result of the vehicle impact. Further,in relation to the alterations being requested,by removing the brick and installing the taller windows(windows that match the existing frame size in the wall behind the brick)the building is being returned to its original condition.
