E sseant"idl ProcPSS E=nQInPPrInl
When preparing to perform an extraction the operator first will clean all vessels using a sanitary stainless steel
cleaner safe for use with food grade equipment such as mixing tanks and other types of food processing equipment.
On the Extractor upper column (Figure 5.1—Item 1)the connections are removed and the upper lid is removed. A
filter is placed between the upper column and the lower collection vessel (Figure 5.1—Item 2). The filter consists of a
stainless steel mesh which will not allow the chopped trim to enter the lower collection vessel. A recovery pump
(Figure 5.1- Item 4) used to pump the filtered solvent from the collection vessel to the solvent vesel, shall be rated
for use with the listed solvents and rated for use within a potentially explosive environment.
The specified amount of Trim (chopped up botancial substance) is loaded into the upper chamber and pressed to the
filter. Once the Trim is loaded in the upper chamber the upper chamber cap is installed (See Figure 5.2).
4111* — .
Figure 5.2—Upper Chamber cap Installed with hose connected (PRV shall be installed between ball valve and Vessel Lid)
With the lid replaced at the upper chamber and all valves closed to the upper chamber and lower collection vessel
the system is sealed. The two pressure vessels are mechanically conneccted and sealed.
The operator confirms that all pressure Gauges show no pressure.
The operator now must create a reduced pressure atmosphere within the vessels using a vacuum pump. The vacuum
pump is a small Y HP size capable of drawing a vacuum of nearly 22 inHg.
The operator connects the vaccum pump to a manifold or to a ball check quick coupler. With the vacuum connected
in a normal atmosphere not in the presence of Butane, the operator turns on the vacuum pump (not shown in figure)
and now reduces the pressure within the closed system to nearly 22 inHg.
The pressure gauge located on the Closed Loop Extractor will show the reduced pressure. Once achieved, the
operator turns off the vacuum pump and removes it from the quick coupler. Now the two vessels are at a reduced
pressure.
5/3/2016 Project: 1604141_BrianKnopf_Extractor Page 11 of 34
EPE Doc. 160414ER Confidential- Proprietary Document Butane USE ONLY
