GEoDEsIGN! FIELD REPORT
1 of
1 Project Name: Everett River Front-Simpson 1 Report 090 !
j GeoDesign#: 1 Polygon-127 03
Date: 1/25/2018
Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW1505-005
1
I
i i Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) 1 Randy Allen(City of Everett) i Weather: Cloudy, 40's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) r
I Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1415/1500
Distribution:
Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett)
Paul McKee(City of Everett) Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By Ben Weinberg, EIT
m Site Plan(s) ❑ Density Test Summary Signature
Attachments:
❑ Installation Records Elr,1 a K
Reviewed By z _
PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Craig with DDS to
observe foundation subgrade for Lot 280 and 281.
..01 ` OBSERVATIONS:
Lot 280:
Previously, Ge. esign identified an approximately 15 feet long by 10 feet wide area in the northeast corner of Lot 280
which could b- a robed 1-3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe and required the removal of 3-5 feet of unsuitable
material t. pose firm and unyielding soil. Today, GeoDesign noted that the contractor had completed backfilling of the
- avated area with a 2-inch clean crushed rock material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may be generated prior to
placementceofaconcrete be removed from the base of the footing areas.
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 281.
GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with
gravel (f-c)which could be probed less than 2 inches. GeoDesign noted a 15 feet long and 15 feet wide triangular area in
the northeast corner of the lot which could be probed 1 to 3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe.
GeoDesign notified the contractor that the area was unsuitable for support of the intended structure and would require
over-excavation down to firm and unyielding soil and replacement with structural fill material. While on-site, GeoDesign
observed the removal of 1.5 to 4 feet of unsuitable material down to firm and unyielding soil for the above-mentioned area;
GeoDesign notified the contractor that the over-excavated area was currently suitable for placement of backfill material.
Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade soils was tested using a Troxler Moisture-Density Gauge; with the
exception of the above mentioned area, in-place density tests indicated that the material had been compacted to greater
than 95% of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis.
It is GeoDesign's understanding that the contractor will backfill the over-excavated area with 2-inch clean crushed rock
material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1 and Nuclear Density Gauge Data.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By'section.
-4_.-"'i,,,
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
i
