A <br /> DESIGNz FIELD REPORT <br /> 1 of <br /> Project Name: Everett River Front-Simpson Report: 089 <br /> GeoDesign#: Polygon-127-03 Date: 1/24/2018 <br /> Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit: <br /> PW1505-005 1 <br /> 1 <br /> Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) Randy Allen(City of Everett) Weather: Cloudy, 40's <br /> Ron Bowen(Polygon) Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1630/1700 <br /> Distribution: <br /> Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett) <br /> Paul McKee(City of Everett) Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Ben Weinberg, EIT <br /> m Site Plan(s) m Density Test Summary Signature: <br /> Attachments: <br /> 0 Installation Records 0 Other Reviewed By. <br /> PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Craig with DDS to <br /> observe foundation subgrade for Lot 280. <br /> SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS: <br /> Lot 280: <br /> Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 280. <br /> GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with <br /> gravel (f-c)which could be probed less than 2 inches. GeoDesign noted a 15 feet long and 10 feet wide area in the <br /> northeast corner of the lot which could be probed 1 to 3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. <br /> GeoDesign notified the contractor that the area was unsuitable for support of the intended structure and would require <br /> over-excavation down to firm and unyielding soil and replacement with structural fill material. While on-site, GeoDesign <br /> observed the removal of 3 to 5 feet of unsuitable material down to firm and unyielding soil for the above-mentioned area; <br /> GeoDesign notified the contractor that the over-excavated area was currently suitable for placement of backfill material. <br /> Additional disturbed material generated from tracking onto the building pad was removed from the east side of the <br /> foundation area. <br /> Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade soils was tested using a Troxler Moisture-Density Gauge;with the <br /> exception of the above mentioned area, in-place density tests indicated that the material had been compacted to greater <br /> than 95% of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis. <br /> It is GeoDesign's understanding that the contractor will backfill the over-excavated area with 2-inch clean crushed rock <br /> material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass. <br /> A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1 and Nuclear Density Gauge Data. <br /> This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services.We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and <br /> specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor,the contractor's employees <br /> or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety.This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations,testing,and preliminary recommendations.
