Either occupancy type represents a change of use. A Certificate of Occupancy is required for continued occupancy of the structure. Additional code requirements include: • The maximum distance to an exit within the space may not exceed 75 feet. • All exit doors must swing in the direction of egress travel and be provided with panic hardware. • Exit signs and egress lighting are required. • Two separate toilet rooms are required, male and female and each are required to be accessible. • Construction plans and details for the mezzanine and stairs are required to be submitted for review. Permit Procedure It is highly suggested that a pre-application meeting be scheduled to discuss the issues related to the property and the permit requirements. Required permits for this use include building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical. Permits may only be issued to building owners, licensed contractors or building tenants with the written permission from the building owner.
