What we wish to do: We wish to promote five Village Theatre Mainstage shows (spanning two
performance seasons)to people outside of the City of Everett with the aim of generating
overnight stays by an estimated 2,258 people, primarily in the shoulder and off-season of
October through April. Multimedia ads appearing on TV, radio, web, and in print, and transit
advertising, as well as targeted printed mailing distributions, will promote one of the area's
greatest asset brand—the outdoors—which includes primary tourism experiences like
"business and event-based visitation," as day-trippers and extended-stay visitors "open up to
the arts" and enjoy culture, one of the highest visitor-rated attractions in the area. Who will
benefit, why and how: Direct beneficiaries include day-trippers traveling significant distances
(50+ miles)to attend an evening or matinee performance, such as those traveling from
Bellingham, Vancouver BC, Wenatchee, as well as Pierce and King counties, who stay
overnight in one of the City of Everett's many lodging establishments (e.g., Hampton Inn,
Marriott Courtyard, Delta Hotel by Marriott, Inn at Port Gardner). The City of Everett's 110,079
residents, especially those residents employed in Leisure & Hospitality sector(a total of
173,000 Seattle-Bellevue-Everett residents, Nov. 2018 Washington Employment Estimates)will
also benefit, since the project is designed to promote tourism development primarily during off-
season. Beginning and Ending Date of the Project: January 04-December 31, 2019.
Evaluation Methodology: We will analyze tourism-specific questions on our patron marketing
surveys; count the number of overnight stays reported, and predict others based on the number
of patrons who live 50+ miles from the theatre (quantitative); gather relevant anecdotal
qualitative information; and assess partnering tourism entities' satisfaction with the success of
our effort. Proof this project will directly and indirectly enhance tourism as part of a
larger, county-wide effort: According to Dean Runyan Associates' Washington State Travel
Impacts &Visitor Volume 2000-2017p, visitors who stay overnight in commercial lodging
typically have the greatest economic impact, with urban areas tending to have greater shares of
hotel/motel stays. In Snohomish County, $95,694 in visitor spending supports one job and in
2016, the visitors' share of taxable sales represented 4.8% of the total, with the overnight visitor
share at 2.7%. Visitors' contributions to local tax receipts grew by 4.7%, as compared to
business or employee contributions, which fell by 2.2% between 2016 and 2017.Visitors to
Snohomish County in 2017 spent the greatest amount ($172.3 million) in the Accommodations
& Food Services sector with the second largest amount ($57.8 million) in the Arts,
Entertainment, and Recreation industry sector. On average, overnight visitors who stay in
commercial lodging stay 2.1 nights and spend $373 per person per trip. Research conducted
by Village Theatre, a highly unique tourism asset that offers a one-of-a-kind theatre experience
in the region, indicates 56,324 visitors traveled to see our 2017-2018 Mainstage Season
productions at EPAC; 2% of our season subscribers (666 people)and 8% of our single ticket
households (1,592 people,)traveled 50 or more miles to attend a show at Village Theatre,
generating overnight stays by 2,258 people. These same 56,324 theatre-goers spent money on
overnight stays and/or dinner before evening performances, or on lunch before attending a
matinee. Since the majority of our audience survey respondents (99.4%) indicated they
traveled for pleasure and about 4.1% stayed overnight, they likely combined their visit to EPAC
with a trip to one of Everett's other prime tourism destinations: Everett's shoreline, Flying
Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, FUNKO, Schack Arts Center, Imagine Children's Museum,
or Angel of the Winds Arena.
