Village Theatre contributes to the City of Everett's economic impact with jobs, by attracting
54,066 day-tripper visitors, and by generating overnight stays from its 2,258 theatre-goers who -
travel 50 miles or more to attend a production at EPAC (our current survey does not ask
overnight visitors to distinguish between paid lodging or stays with family/friends). According to
the Arts & Economic Prosperity Calculator designed by Americans for the Arts, this past
season's expenditure of$1,548,134 by Village Theatre in Everett had a total economic impact
of$3,180,156 (including $1,632,022 in event-related spending by audiences); supported 100
FTE jobs; resulted in $2,152,718 paid in household income to community residents as a result
of the expenditures made by our organization and its audiences; and generated an estimated
$144,899 in local and $186,280 in state government revenue. Dean Runyan Associates' latest
County data indicates each individual traveler staying overnight spends $178 per day, which
implies that about$401,924 per day was spent by Village Theatre's 2,258 audience members
who stayed overnight last season. Our audience surveys indicate the vast majority(99.4%)
traveled for pleasure although their decision to stay overnight varied greatly from one show to
another. For example, more than 5% of EPAC audience members attending Newsies stayed
overnight, as compared to 3.5% of those attending The Gin Game, String or Hairspray. Jointly
marketed events the following day that appeal to the same audience would encourage even
more visitors to stay two or more nights to attend multiple events. Within the context of
Snohomish County's 2018-2022 Strategic Tourism Plan, Village Theatre's tourism aim is to
convert arts performance event-based day-tripper traffic into overnight stays during the
shoulder and off-season periods and generate overnight stays in the City of Everett by an
estimated 2,258 people. Village Theatre contributes significantly to tourism, one of the County's
largest industries, where direct-tourism related jobs employ nearly 11,000 and generate about
$23 million in local taxes and $58 million in state taxes. Village Theatre "opens up the arts"to
tourists with a five-show Mainstage Season that runs from September through July, with 20
weeks of production in Everett. Village Theatre works with various tourism entities to enhance
promotional efforts already underway by the Downtown Everett Association.
