CONsI:;1,I1NG F N G IN!'?A R
October 13,2017
Mr.James Bronder
City of Everett,Everett,WA.
Sub: Response to Structural Review by James Bronder: 6504 Evergreen Way,WA 98203
1 Dear Mr.James Bronder:
We are writing this in response to the structural review comments made by you in a document dated 08/10/2017.
Our response is in Times New Roman font style under each comment:
PSM Response to Reviewed Comments in Structural Package
Comment#1: On Detail B/S304, it appears that temporary shoring is being provided by others. Please
provide drawings indicating the extents of shoring and what the shoring system being used on the
project.
RESPONSE: Please review updated section submitted in latest drawing set. There is no requirement of
shoring anymore based on current design revision.
Comment#2: On several foundation details (for example, B/S304), it appears that the slab-on-grade is
tying into the concrete basement and shear walls. Please provide clarification regarding this detailing
condition.
RESPONSE: Wall is tied at top to PT deck and at bottom to SOG. The wall has been designed as
restrained retaining wall for soil loads:And dowels connecting wall to SOG/PT deck have been spaced
based on design force requirement of in-plane seismic shear and out of plane sliding restrain for
restrained retaining shearwall.
Comment#3: On General Structural Notes, it appears that the seismic coefficient for the concrete shear
wall portion of the lateral force resisting system is less than the wood shear wall portion. Please clarify
and revise as required.
RESPONSE: General Notes and Special Inspection Notes sheets of the project have been completely
revised to incorporate all needed revisions.
Comment#4: It appears that the site and proposed structure has an unbalanced soil loading condition
that has not been accounted for in the structure in the east-west direction of loading. Please revise base
shear values and shear wall design as required.
RESPONSE: We have updated calculations to this effect. Please see Etabs report section of calculation
package (on page#98) for loading condition described above.
Comment#5: Please verify column vertical reinforcement, vertical reinforcement for concrete shear
walls, and weldable reinforcement is ASTM Grade A706 reinforcement per ACI 318-14 Sec. 20.2.2.5.
2200 6TH AVENUE, ri601.
