• w Scriven Residence Improvements-REVISED NGA File No 974316
1901 West Mukilteo Boulevard November 29,2016
Everett,Washington Page 2
We were previously provided with a geotechnical report for the property titled "Scriven Property," dated
May 10, 2012,prepared by Geotech Consultants, Inc. In this report, they provided recommendations for
stabilizing the upper portion of the steep slope with shoring walls along with drainage improvements. We
understand that the City of Everett has requested an updated geotechnical evaluation of the proposed
improvements due to the geotechnical report being over one year old. For our use in preparing this report,
we were also provided with a plan set titled"Scriven Addition/Remodel," dated September 28, 2016 and
prepared by BC&J Architecture.
SCOPE
The purpose of this study is to explore and characterize the site subsurface conditions, and provide our
opinions and recommendations regarding the existing slope stability and proposed development.
Specifically, our scope of services includes the following:
1. Review available soils and geologic maps of the area, available plans, and previously
prepared geotechnical reports for the property.
2. Explore the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions within the site with hand-augered
holes.
3. Map the conditions on the slope and evaluate current slope stability conditions.
4. Provide recommendations for improving slope stability, including the use of light
retaining structures, erosion control systems, and drainage improvements as needed.
5. Provide recommendations for foundation support for the additions, including minimum
foundation embedment.
6. Provide an evaluation of the proposed addition setback from the steep slope.
7. Provide recommendations for earthwork.
8. Provide recommendations for temporary and permanent slopes.
9. Provide recommendations for slab subgrade preparation.
10. Provide recommendations for drainage improvements.
11. Provide recommendations for long-term slope maintenance.
12. Provide recommendations for your planned re-grading of your backyard.
13. Document the results of our explorations, findings, conclusions, and recommendations in
a written geotechnical report.
NELSON GEOTECHNICAL ASSOCIATES, INC.
