• <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 284-74 <br /> AN ORDINANCE authorizing the appointment of <br /> of Special Policemen upon certain requirements, terms <br /> 1 and conditions and repealing Ordinance No. 3370, <br /> Sections 1-12 (E .CC .Chapter 4.58) <br /> 2 <br /> THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN as follows: <br /> 3 <br /> Section 1: Appointments <br /> 4 <br /> 5 The Chief of Police may in his discretion appoint special policemen <br /> pursuant to the requirements, terms and conditions of this ordinance and the <br /> 7 Charter of the City of Everett. All such appointments must be approved by the <br /> 8 City Council. <br /> 9 Section 2: Qualifications <br /> 10 <br /> (a) There shall be a criminal record check for each applicant <br /> 11 for special policeman, and each such applicant must have <br /> as clear a criminal record check as required for entering <br /> 12 regular police officers of the City of Everett. <br /> 13 <br /> (b) Each special policeman shall have at least one year law <br /> 14 enforcement experience or its equivalent as may <br /> be approved by the Chief of Police. <br /> 15 <br /> (c) Each special policeman shall be at least twenty-one (21) <br /> 16 years of age. <br /> 17 Section 3: <br /> 18 Each special policeman applicant, or his employer, must show the need <br /> 19 <br /> and necessity for the issuance of a special police commission. <br /> 20 <br /> Section 4: Limitation of Authority <br /> 21 <br /> 22 A special policeman appointed pursuant to this ordinance shall have the <br /> 23 <br /> same authority as regular police officers of the City of Everett, which <br /> 24 police authority shall be limited as follows: <br /> 25 (a) The territorial authority of such policeman shall be limited to the <br /> property on which the employer's business is located and public <br /> 26 streets adjacent thereto. <br /> 27 (b) The special policeman's authority shall be limited to the assigned <br /> 28 hours such policeman is employed for his employer. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
