During these times the Contractor shall work continuously and
reopen to traffic immediately following completion of work. PCMS messages shall
notify of closures a minimum of one week in advance of closure.
• Pedestrian access must be maintained or detours provided at all times.
Other than work items specifically allowing night work hours listed above, no work will
be allowed between the hours of 7:00pm and 7:00am unless otherwise permitted by
the applicable jurisdiction(s).
If the Engineer determines the permitted closure hours adversely affect traffic, the
Engineer may adjust the hours accordingly. The Engineer will notify the Contractor in
writing of any change in the closure hours.
No lane closures will be allowed on a holiday or holiday weekend. Holidays that occur
on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday are considered a holiday weekend.
Business Open Signage
Business open signs shall be placed at all business entrances located adjacent to lane
closures. Construction signs, if placed earlier than the specified hours
of closure, shall be turned or covered so as not to be visible to motorists.
Hours of Darkness
When night work is permitted the Contractor shall, at no additional cost to the
Contracting Agency, make all arrangements for operations during hours of darkness.
Flagger stations shall be illuminated using a minimum 150 watt floodlight.
Lighting used for nighttime work shall, whenever possible, be directed away from, or
shielded from, residences and oncoming traffic.
Traffic Blockage for Mast Arm Erection
During erection of mast arm assemblies, the Contractor may, with the authorization of
the Engineer, block all traffic for maximum durations of fifteen minutes between the
Community Transit Swift II BRT DRAFT Special Provisions SP4
November 2016
