April 7,2008
Mr.Don Levin
L&A Job No. 8A037
Page 10
impact the stability of the adjacent steep slope are either non-existent or can be minimized to an
acceptable level of risk if the recommendations in this report are fully implemented and
observed. The vegetation cover on the steep slope should be preserved and not to be disturbed.
Areas devoid of vegetation cover due to construction activities should be seeded and re-vegetated
as soon as possible. We understand that grading of building pad and driveway and building
footprint excavation for the development of the new residence will be achieved with
conventional earthwork equipment. If the recommendations in this report are followed during
grading work, the construction method and technique should have little impact on the stability of
the adjacent steep slope. Since the driveway and utility lines will approach the new residence
from the street side away from the adjacent steep slope, driveway construction and utility
installation should also have minimal impact on the stability of the adjacent steep slope.
To maintain the stability of the adjacent steep slope, the new residence should be sufficiently set
back from the crest of the slope of gradient 40% or more. It is our opinion that if the new
residence is set back at least 15 feet from the crest of the adjacent steep slope of 40% or more
grade, the new residence should be able to maintain long-term stability.
BUILDING FOUNDATIONS
Conventional footing foundations may be used to support the proposed new residence. The
footing foundations should be constructed on or into undisturbed, dense silty fine sand and/or
hard fine sandy silt soils,or on structural fill placed on these competent native basal soils. Water
should not be allowed to accumulate in excavated footing trenches. Disturbed loose and over-
saturated soils in footing trenches should be completely removed down to firm undisturbed
native soils and water should pumped dry prior to pouring concrete for the footings.
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
