2. Sign#1 is approved, with the understanding that instead of projecting at a 90 degree angle
from the north building façade,it will project at a 45 degree angle so it is visible from both
California Street and Wetmore Avenue. This includes the rotating crown on the top of the
sign, and the lights within the individual letters that blink in order to"have a random
scintillating effect."
/,c 3. REVISED Sign#3 is approved as proposed in the revised submitted plans, dated 3/3/2017.
eA. Sign#4 and the mascot sculpture proposed on the corner of Wetmore and California cannot
both be approved and meet the evaluation criteria for the Comprehensive design plan permit.
With the projecting sign on the corner of the building, the two proposed signs on top of the
canopy would create an excess of signage that does not meet criteria 4.However, one of the
above canopy wall signs, either the Funko script sign or the indirectly illuminated mascot
sculpture sign, may be installed at the applicant's choosing, provided:
a. If the mascot sculpture sign is selected, the applicant shall provide details to the
Planning Department for the size and dimensions for further review by the Planning
Director, since dimensions were not provided on the originally submitted plans.
5. The applicant shall provide information about the intensity of lighting for all signs for review
and approval by the Planning Director. Lighting for all signs shall be controlled by a dimmer
to allow for adjusting the lighting intensity of the sign to levels compatible with surrounding
uses, traffic control lighting, streetlights and lighting for the subject building. The applicant
shall reduce illumination levels if the Planning Director determines that the overall night time
lighting intensity of all signs is not compatible with surrounding uses and/or traffic control
devices.
6. In order for the non-mascot sculptures to qualify as artwork and not be considered signs,
Funko shall provide a commitment in a form acceptable to the City Attorney that the above
canopy sculptures will be relocated or replaced with new sculptures at least once every 365
days.
7. The applicant shall secure required sign and electrical permits. A copy of this decision shall
be submitted with the sign permit application.
8. The signs' designs must be similar to the designs of the plans submitted with this application.
Any deviation must be approved by the Planning Department.
This is an administrative decision that is appealable to the City's Land Use Hearing Examiner.
Appeal forms are available from the Planning Department Permit Services Counter located at
3200 Cedar Street,2nd Floor, and must be submitted along with the required filing fee within 14
days of the date of this decision.
