To provide for a method of orderly transition from the old salary scheduled to the new salary schedule, the following shall apply: I. Any employee whose base salary under a previous schedule is greater than the base salary provided in the schedule contained in this ordinance shall continue to receive the previous base pay; provided, however, that an employee working in a classi- fication designated to be in a salary range prefaced by range number D or E shall continue to receive the previous base pay in accordance with a previous salary schedule only if the Mayor has not set the salary within the limits of salary range D and E as provided in Section 2 (c) of this ordinance. 2-C. Range numbers prefaced by D and E are to be considered as minimum and maximum salary ranges within which the Mayor may set the salary to be paid an employee. Employees in pay range numbers prefaced by E are appointive officers.
