I
1 The Contracting Agency's combined aggregate bulk specific gravity (Gsb) blend as shown
2 on the HMA Mix Design will be used for VMA calculations until the Contractor submits a
3 written request for a Gsb test. The new Gsb will be used in the VMA calculations for HMA
I4 from the date the Engineer receives the written request for a Gsb retest. The Contractor
5 may request aggregate specific gravity (Gsb) testing be performed by the Contracting
6 Agency twice per project. The Gsb blend of the combined stockpiles will be used to
7 calculate voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) of any HMA produced after the new Gsb is
8 determined.
9
I10 5-04.3(9)A1 Test Section — When Required, When to Stop
11 The following new row is inserted after the second row in Table 9:
12
VMA Minimum PF; of 0.95 None4
based on the criteria in
Section 5-04.3(9)642
I13
14 5-04.3(9)A2 Test Section — Evaluating the HMA Mixture in a Test Section
15 In Table 9a, the test property "Gradation, Asphalt Binder, and Va" is revised to read "Gradation,
a16 Asphalt Binder, VMA, and Va"
17
18 In Table 9a, the first column of the third row is revised to read:
I 19
Aggregates:
Sand Equivalent
Uncompacted Void Content
Fracture
20
21 5-04.3(9)63 Mixture Statistical Evaluation — Acceptance Testing
I22 In Table 11, "Va" is revised to read "VMA and Va"
23
24 5-04.3(9)65 Mixture Statistical Evaluation — Composite Pay Factors (CPF)
I25 The following new row is inserted above the last row in Table 12:
26
Voids in Mineral Aggregate 2
(VMA)
I 27
28 5-04.3(9)67 Mixture Statistical Evaluation — Retests
I29 The second to last sentence is revised to read:
30
31 The sample will be tested for a complete gradation analysis, asphalt binder content, VMA
32 and Va, and the results of the retest will be used for the acceptance of the HMA mixture in
33 place of the original mixture sublot sample test results.
34
I35 5-04.3(10)C1 HMA Compaction Statistical Evaluation — Lots and Sublots
36 The bulleted item in the fourth paragraph is revised to read:
37
38 • For a compaction lot in progress with a compaction CPF less than 0.75 using an LSL =
I39 91.5, a new compaction lot will begin at the Contractor's request after the Engineer is
40 satisfied that material conforming to the Specifications can be produced.
