Component based paint systems shall be listed on the QPL in the <br /> 12 applicable sections of Section 9-08. Performance based systems shall be listed on the <br /> 13 current Northeast Protective Coatings Committee (NEPCOAT) Qualified Products List "A" <br /> I <br /> 14 as listed on the WSDOT QPL in Section 9-08.1(2)M. If the paint and related materials for <br /> 15 the component based system is not listed in the current WSDOT QPL, a sample shall be <br /> 16 submitted to the State Materials Laboratory in Tumwater for evaluation and acceptance in I 17 accordance with Section 9-08. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 6-07.3(9)C Mixing and Thinning Paint <br /> I <br /> 20 This section is revised to read: <br /> 21 <br /> 22 The Contractor shall thoroughly mix paint in accordance with the manufacturer's written I 23 recommendations and by mechanical means to ensure a uniform and lump free <br /> 24 composition. Paint shall not be mixed by means of air stream bubbling or boxing. Paint <br /> 25 shall be mixed in the original containers and mixing shall continue until all pigment or 11126 metallic powder is in suspension. Care shall be taken to ensure that the solid material that <br /> 27 has settled to the bottom of the container is thoroughly dispersed. After mixing, the <br /> 28 Contractor shall inspect the paint for uniformity and to ensure that no unmixed pigment or <br /> 29 lumps are present. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Catalysts, curing agents, hardeners, initiators, or dry metallic powders that are packaged <br /> 32 separately may be added to the base paint in accordance with the paint manufacturer's <br /> I <br /> 33 written recommendations and only after the paint is thoroughly mixed to achieve a uniform <br /> 34 mixture with all particles wetted. The Contractor shall then add the proper volume of curing <br /> 35 agent to the correct volume of base and mix thoroughly. The mixture shall be used within <br /> I <br /> 36 the pot life specified by the manufacturer. Unused portions shall be discarded at the end of <br /> 37 each work day. Accelerants are not permitted except as allowed by the Engineer. <br /> 38 <br /> I <br /> 39 The Contractor shall not add additional thinner at the application site except as allowed by <br /> 40 the Engineer. The amount and type of thinner, if allowed, shall conform to the <br /> 41 manufacturer's specifications. If recommended by the manufacturer and allowed by the <br /> I <br /> 42 Engineer, a measuring cup shall be used for the addition of thinner to any paint with <br /> 43 graduations in ounces. No un-measured addition of thinner to paint will be allowed. Any <br /> 44 paint found to be thinned by unacceptable methods will be rejected. <br /> 45 <br /> I <br /> 46 When recommended by the manufacturer, the Contractor shall constantly agitate paint <br /> 47 during application by use of paint pots equipped with mechanical agitators. <br /> 48 <br /> I <br /> 49 The Contractor shall strain all paint after mixing to remove undesirable matter, but without <br /> 50 removing the pigment or metallic powder. <br /> 51 <br /> I <br /> City of Everett Page AM-44 Amendments <br /> Everett Downtown Streetscape Improvement March 22, 2019 <br />
