I1 Paint shall be stored and mixed in a secure, contained location to eliminate the potential for
2 spills into State waters and onto the ground and highway surfaces.
I
3
4 6-07.3(9)D Coating Thickness
5 This section is revised to read:
1116
7 Dry film thickness shall be measured in accordance with SSPC Paint Application
8 Specification No. 2, Procedure for Determining Conformance to Dry Coating Thickness
9 Requirements.
110
11 The minimum dry film thickness of the primer coat shall not be less than 2.5 mils.
12
I13 The minimum dry film thickness of each coat (combination of intermediate and intermediate
14 stripe, and top) shall be not less than 3.0 mils.
15
I
16 The dry film thickness of each coat shall not be thicker than the paint manufacturer's
17 recommended maximum thickness.
18
I l 9
The minimum wet film thickness of each coat shall be specified by the paint manufacturer
20 to achieve the minimum dry film thickness.
21
I22 Film thickness, wet and dry, will be measured by gages conforming to Section 6-07.3(8)A.
23
24 Wet measurements will be taken immediately after the paint is applied in accordance with
I
25 ASTM D4414. Dry measurements will be taken after the coating is dry and hard in
26 accordance with SSPC Paint Application Specification No. 2.
27
28 Each painter shall be equipped with wet film thickness gages and shall be responsible for
I29 performing frequent checks of the paint film thickness throughout application.
30
31 Coating thickness measurements may be made by the Engineer after the application of
I
32 each coat and before the application of the succeeding coat. In addition, the Engineer may
33 inspect for uniform and complete coverage and appearance. One hundred percent of all
34 thickness measurements shall meet or exceed the minimum wet film thickness. In areas
' 35 where wet film thickness measurements are impractical, dry film thickness measurements
36 may be made. If a question arises about an individual coat's thickness or coverage, it may
37 be verified by the use of a Tooke gage in accordance with ASTM D4138.
I38
39 If the specified number of coats does not produce a combined dry film thickness of at least
40 the sum of the thicknesses required per coat, if an individual coat does not meet the
41 minimum thickness, or if visual inspection shows incomplete coverage, the coating system
I42 will be rejected and the Contractor shall discontinue painting and surface preparation
43 operations and shall submit a Type 2 Working Drawing of the repair proposal. The repair
44 proposal shall include documentation demonstrating the cause of the less-than-minimum
I45 thickness, along with physical test results, as necessary, and modifications to Work
46 methods to prevent similar results. The Contractor shall not resume painting or surface
47 preparation operations until receiving the Engineer's acceptance of the completed repair.
I48
49 6-07.3(9)E Surface Temperature Requirements Prior to Application of Paint
50 This section, including title, is revised to read:
151
City of Everett Page AM-45 Amendments
Everett Downtown Streetscape Improvement March 22, 2019
