I
Please read! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION! YOU MUST I
PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION WITH INVOICE BEFORE PAYMENT WILL BE
ISSUED.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
Because the City of Everett operates the Hotel-Motel fund as an economic development tool, one of the key evaluation criteria for
selecting a project for funding is its potential economic benefit. In addition, the City is required to report to the State on the
numbers of visitors and the numbers of overnight stays generated by each project.
Please indicate the anticipated economic impact of your project and provide the I
estimated number of participants in each of the following categories; §
• staying in overnight paid accommodations,
• traveling over 50 miles and staying overnight in unpaid accommodations (with friends
or family),
• traveling over 50 miles and staying for the day only, attending but not included in one
of the above categories
• Total of all participants (sum of the first four categories).
Quantify your projections and indicate how you propose to verify your
results (for example, by head count or surveys). You will be required to
provide post-event information for these same categories prior to
reimbursement.
I
Remember, food and fuel purchases assist the local economy but do not contribute to the Hotel-Motel fund;the fund derives
entirely from taxes on overnight lodging in the county. If your project will not result directly in overnight stays, try to demonstrate 1
how Its success may contribute to generating future overnight stays. An example might be a one-day festival you sponsor which, t
when combined with — and jointly marketed with — an event the following day which appealed to the same audience, would
encourage visitors to spend the night and attend both events. In this example,it would be important to discuss the timeframe and
strategy for future implementation of an appropriate cooperative marketing campaign to link your one-day festival with the second i
one. Again, quantify your projections and explain the methodology by which you developed them.
t
I
In 2018, 31,000 people visited Jetty Island via the Argosy passenger ferry.
Tourists can either arrive at the Jetty and wait in the cue for the ferry on a first t
come / first serve basis. Others call ahead and make reservations for their party. 1
City staff captured zip code data from each person making a reservation. Of the
2,145 reservations taken in 2018, 318 (or 14.48%) came from greater than 50 3
miles away and an additional 96 (4.48%) came from outside Washington State or
the United States. If we apply these percentages to all 31,000 visitors, we have at
least 4,591 tourists traveling more than 50 miles and 1,387 coming from outside
Washington State g
Jetty `Island has received excellent press and media coverage in blogs,
magazines, newspapers, tourist apps like Yelp and Trip Advisor and social media.
We anticipate even greater attendance in 2019. .
i
We are exploring the feasibility of geo-fencing or using a data capture app like
"Arrivalist". Geofencing would enable us to target guests with information about t
local restaurants, attractions, kid-friendly activities, hotels and more. "Arrivalist" g
i
would give us better understanding of where our tourists are coming from. I
i
Regardless of where visitors come from, Jetty Island explorers love the outdoors, t
Everett's beautiful parks, trails and sunsets and frequently dine in area restaurants
as the perfect cap to a day at Jetty Island. I
I
Both the Port of Everett and the Inn at Port Gardner have included letters of
support speaking to the volume of overnight stays Jetty Island Days generates for f
their business. }
g
5
i
