City of Everett 01 4523 - 1
2019 Biosolids Removal UT3705-2
I
SECTION 01 4523 — MATERIAL TESTING
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Field quality control testing including, but not limited to, Total Solids (TS) testing of
biosolids.
1.2 PERCENT SOLIDS TESTING
A. Each load of dewatered biosolids solids ready for loading and weighing shall be
sampled and tested by the Contractor to verify the minimum TS of 28% prior to loading
the material and hauling over the scale.
B. Contractor shall also provide the City with a sample from each load to be hauled over
the scale.
C. Each sample provided for City testing shall be a composite sample made up of a
minimum of three (3) grab samples from each truckload. These samples shall be
collected by the Contractor with the samples provided to the City on a daily basis. The
City may also collect independent samples at the discretion of the City's Project
Manager.
D. A sample container shall consist of hard plastic or glass with a secured lid and each
sample shall contain a minimum of three ounces (85 grams) of dewatered biosolids.
Each sample shall be labeled with the date and time that the sample was taken.
E. Samples shall be collected during the truck loading process in a manner approved by
the City's Project Manager and shall be representative of the material ready to be
weighed and transported to the applicable area on the biosolids pad.
F. Samples shall be analyzed by the City at no cost to the Contractor. The Contractor
may perform duplicate solids analysis, at the Contractor's expense.
G. Failure of any tested material to meet the 28% TS requirement prior to loading and
weighing will result in the material being reprocessed until the material meets the
' required minimum of 28% solids. Reprocessing of any materials shall be at the
Contractor's expense.
H. Failure of any material to meet the 28% TS as tested by the City will result in the load
of material being ineligible for payment.
I. City will perform a combination of onsite testing and testing of samples in the City's lab
to determine the TS% in each load.
END OF SECTION 01 4523
01 4523 - 1 MATERIAL TESTING
I
